Biennial Foot & Ankle Symposium: Innovation in Orthopaedic Surgery

In 2016, a new kind of ankle replacement surgery was performed in Canada by Dr. Timothy Daniels, one of the co-chairs of the Canadian Orthopaedic Foot & Ankle Symposium.

Alongside two other orthopaedic surgeons, Dr. Daniels was involved in the research and development of the Cadence Total Ankle System — the new system that was used in the procedure.

This system was described by Daniels as “a welcome addition to the surgical options for end-stage ankle arthritis,” and he says that “we are rapidly approaching a time when ankle joint replacements will be as reliable and durable as total knee replacements.” It is clear that new developments are continuously being explored within this field in order to improve foot & ankle care and treatment outcomes.

Dr. Daniels will be one of several orthopaedic surgeon experts speaking at the 13th Biennial Canadian Orthopaedic Foot & Ankle Symposium. This symposium will provide orthopaedic surgeons with the opportunity to update their skill set and discuss the current treatment and management of foot and ankle problems.

Focus topics for the 2018 Symposium include:

  • MIS Foot Surgery
  • Multi-Directional Ankle Instability
  • Ankle Joint Preservation Surgery
  • Biologics – Bone/Soft Tissue Healing
  • End-Stage Ankle Arthritis

There will also be Expanded Professor Rounds and “Water Cooler” discussions, Live Patient Case, Case-Based Presentations, and Foot & Ankle Debates.

The Canadian Orthopaedic Foot and Ankle Symposium is Canada’s largest Surgical Foot and Ankle meeting. This year’s meeting will take place from April 19-21, 2018 at the Sheraton Centre Hotel in Toronto. All members of the Canadian Orthopaedic community are encouraged and invited to attend.
